A man who had been making Ashanti and her family's life a living hell for almost a decade was convicted of stalking her in a New York City courtroom on Friday, March 18. 37-year old Devar Hurd believes that he and the singer are in a relationship.

Hurd, who defended himself, was convicted in 2009 of stalking and harassing the former Murder Inc recording artist. Ashanti was given an order of protection, which Hurd violated by showing up at events attended by her younger sister and tweeting the singer hundreds of lewd messages.

Hurd grilled Ashanti during cross-examination when she took the stand this week. He read back some of the tweets he had sent to her, including one that read "eating pu$$y from the back tastes better from a flight to Russia," according to TMZ.

He then asked if she had seen the message. "I saw the disgusting tweet and was insulted," she responded.

"Why didn't you tell me to stop or block me?" he asked. "I know how you are when it comes to our sex life ... us f*cking is very emotional on both ends."
Ashanti then crossed her arms, closed her eyes and sat silently.During closing arguments Hurd told the jury that Ashanti should have blocked him. He added that he didn't consider sexually explicit texts and tweets a crime or sexual harassment.

The jury wasn't buying it. They convicted him of felony 2nd degree stalking. He could get anywhere from 1 1/2 to 4 years in prison when he is sentenced later this month.

Hurd refused to plead guilty even though he had been offered time served in exchange.

Ashanti was understandably happy to see Hurd convicted. She thanked God and her supporters via social media.
