House help docked for allegedly slapping, stealing employer’s N200, 000

A 29-year-old house help, Simon Ishaya, was on Monday arraigned in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly slapping and stealing N200,000 from his employer.

The defendant is standing trial on a two-count-charge of theft and assault.

The prosecutor, John Ijagbemi , said that one Jegede Moshood of Lusaca Close, Wuse Zone 6, reported the matter at Wuse Police Station on Dec.6.

Ijagbemi said that the defendant, a house help who worked for the complainant at his resident entered his room and stole N200, 000 kept in an envelope.

He said two days before the money was stolen, the defendant drove the complainant to the bank to collect the money, sent to him by his son who lives abroad because his driver travelled.

Ijagbemi said that the defendant entered the complainant’s room in order to clean it and then stole the money from the envelope.

He said that when the complainant found out that the money had been stolen, he confronted the defendant to return the money, but the defendant slapped him instead.

Ijagbemi said that the complainant, who is about 70-year-old, could not slap the defendant back because of his old age.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 265 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Fatima Bukar, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.

Bukar said the surety should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case till Jan. 12, for hearing.
