Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the NBA's Most Valuable Player for a second straight year, becoming the first player to win the honour unanimously. The league announced the results on Tuesday, with Curry receiving all 131 first-place votes after leading Golden State to an NBA-record 73 wins with 402 three-pointers, beating his own record of 286.
Curry led the league with 30.1 points per game and also become the seventh player in NBA history to make at least 50 per cent of his field goals, 40 per cent of his three-point attempts and 90 per cent of his free throws.
The announcement comes a day after one of the most memorable performances of Curry's career as he marked his first game back from a knee injury suffered against the Houston Rockets with a 40-point performance - with 17 coming in overtime - to lead the Warriors to a 132-125 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, giving them a 3-1 lead in the second-round playoff series.The San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard earned the most second-place votes and narrowly edged the Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James for second place in the voting.Curry's teammate Draymond Green also received votes, placing seventh overall. The Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant finished fourth and fifth respectively.
