| Riyad Mahrez named Facebook Player of the Year (Reuters) |
Following his impressive performance for Leicester City this season Algeria international forward Riyad Mahrez has been named Facebook Player of the Year.Mahrez was a main part of Leicester City squad that shockingly won the Premier League this season.His 17 goals and 11 assists also earned him the PFA Player of the Year, making him the first African to win the award.He beat his teammate Jamie Vardy to win scoop the Player of the Year at the Facebook Football Awards.
“It’s something special, and something big as well, because it’s from all over the world, and I thank them, and thanks to all of my fans. I love all my fans. I am very happy,” Mahrez is quoted by the Mirror in response to the award.
His manager Claudio Ranieri was named Manager of the Year while Leicester City took the award for the Team of the Year.
