According to reports, the man identified as Ejike Nwankwo Ohagba, 30, had, in September, 2015, killed two of his siblings in the same well, set his family house ablaze and disappeared, only to reappear in the community last week to continue his killing spree.
On the day of the incident, the widowed woman, Christiana Nwankwo, had gone to the farm with a 14-year old boy, Chiemerie, at the family compound, not knowing that he murderous son was hiding somewhere in wait for her.It was gathered it was the teenage boy who first saw the suspect and alerted the deceased that he was in the compound but before they could escape, Ejike had pounced on his mother while the young boy managed to escape.
He then overpowered the old woman, threw her into the well and started throwing the broken blocks into it to ensure that his mother was did not survive, before the boy could alert other members of the community.
Reacting to the incident, the traditional ruler of community Igwe Martin Eze, Idu of Igbo-Ukwu, said he was still in shock over the incident and actually dumbfounded.
The monarch said the incident was reported to the police and implored the federal and state governments to set up rehabilitation centres in many communities where people could be rehabilitated when they begin to exhibit unusual behaviour.
