Nigerian musician bags 3 years in jail over attempted theft of $3.5 m in tax refunds

Nigerian musician based in the U.S has according to reports, been sentenced to three years in jail over the attempted theft of $3.5 million in tax refunds.
The reports reveal that, 29-year-old, Olufunso Adesina, a guitarist had reportedly tried to steal more than $3 million in fake tax refunds.

Adesina living in St. Louis had pleaded guilty to stealing tax refunds last year bagging over three years in a federal prison on Thursday, April 21.
Investigators reveal that Adesina had ended up collecting nearly $800,000 from over 50 refunds by filing false tax returns under other people’s names.
In November 2015, the U.S. Attorney's office in St. Louis reportedly announced the charges against Adesina, with the prosecutors revealing that Adeshina had left the area, while urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Internal Revenue Service's criminal investigation division.
The prosecutors also reveal that Adeshina had reportedly participated in a stolen identity tax fraud scheme, as IRS investigators allegedly found tax refunds which had been due to several people, deposited in numerous accounts in Adeshina's name or businesses he had control over.
The criminal complaint reportedly claims that nearly $200,000 has flowed into over 20 accounts being run by Adeshina since the start of 2016.
Three local banks are reported to have helped investigators in the bust after noticing Adeshina's suspicious behavior.
The suspect could face a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.
