The leader of the deadly inter-state armed robbery gang that has been wrecking havoc on banks and residents of Lagos and environs, has been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), after he had remained elusive for many months.
The suspect who often disguised as a woman, Clement Abanara, was arrested in Benin, Edo State, in an apartment at the Osayande Estate after many months of surveillance and intelligence gathering by the police.It was gathered that the suspect who is also known as Million in the underworld, had led the attacks on banks at various locations including Lekki, Ikorodu, Agbara, Festac Town, where millions of Naira were carted away by his gang, killing many people, including police officers and innocent civilians, particularly a pregnant woman who was shot dead at the Agbara attack while an innocent fish seller was killed at the Lekki robbery.
Another innocent victim of the deadly gang was a nursing mother who was shot alongside her little baby.
The IRT, led by CSP Abba Kyari, it was learnt, had in November 2015, launched a manhunt for the bank robbers when one suspect Kelly Fotor, was arrested at a wedding in Sapele, Delta State, and he allegedly confessed to the police that Million was the gang leader who disguised as a woman during operations.Fotor had also told the police that Million is an experienced kidnapper with over eight rifles in his possession.
Before his arrest, four members of the gang were arrested alongside one of their financiers by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, and they took the operatives to a mansion built by Million, but met the house empty.
Operatives also trailed Million’s wife to Warri, Delta State, where she was arrested an she took the police to Benin, where her husband was arrested in a rented apartment.
